Curriculum

Our well rounded curriculum encompasses all aspect of early childhood education including development of cognitive thought, large muscle and small muscle exercise, and dramatic play.  We focus on weekly learning topics or a theme which are published to parents in advance. Our small student-to-teacher ratio ensures each student receives individual attention and adequate opportunity to understand concepts and ideas.  In addition to classroom activities, students participate in at-home activities like reading reward programs or taking home the ‘Color Box’.  Individual birthday celebrations, holiday parties and guest visitors/readers ensure special events are recognized within the curriculum.

Preschool - All Day, Everyday!

Mount Carmel takes the value of a preschool atmosphere and applies it to all activities in the classroom.  Rather than relying on only a few hours a day for structured learning, Mount Carmel is able to extend teaching time throughout the entire day.  The result is a rich learning environment where kids can excel.  In addition, we currently utilize outside instructors for four classes per week - two music classes, a computer class and a Spanish class.  This enriches the curriculum we offer beyond what is offered at a traditional preschool.

"Our son recently began Kindergarten after attending Mount Carmel for three years.  Because Mount Carmel offered such a great learning environment, we determined that sending him to a separate preschool wasn't necessary," says Ann Packer-Smith.  "At his Kindergarten entrance screening, Chase scored a perfect 64, which is remarkable considering that he is a young Kindergartener." (He didn't turn 5 until he had already started school.)  "Clearly, Mount Carmel played a huge role in getting him ready for school.  In fact, the Spanish and computer classes have really put him ahead of the other kids in his class.  He also had a much easier transition into school than some of the other kids who hadn't enjoyed a full-day learning experience before."

That same rhythm of learning is shared at the Toddler level. Children alternate between structured learning and more informal free play.  "Our 2-year-old daughter now attends Mount Carmel," continues Ann, " and we're thrilled that she can get such an early start on life long learning!"
